One of the projects I wanted to finish as well was our Mudroom/Coat Closet.
You must think I'm crazy tackling this space along with my sons bedroom at the same time, but you know me, right?! :-)
You must think I'm crazy tackling this space along with my sons bedroom at the same time, but you know me, right?! :-)
Anyway, It's a small niche to the right as you enter our kitchen from the back.
This is what it currently looks like...
Functional but really BLAH |
The wire shelving is not cutting it for me |
So many wires and that 'ugly' electrical box And a useful but also not-so-nice-to-look-at shoe rack |
The space served it's purpose well in the past, but it's just time for a change.
With my new kitchen and all, I wanted this space to get some TLC too!
In figuring out what to do with this space, I listed some of the things we use it for, particularly for the Fall/Winter season:
1) A place for our coats, jackets & other winter weather paraphernalia
2) An area for my kids backpacks
3) Catch-all for keys, sunglasses, wipes etc.
4) A place for the kids and my hubs shoes (Mine are in our master closet) & slippers
5) Easy access for umbrellas and hats
However, with such a long an narrow space, I could not fit any Hall tree or bench in there.
So, here's how I want this space to have...
PB New York Shelf & Clothes rack |
Better looking coat rack doesn't hurt right?
One of these Round Carson Metal mirror |
Yes, have to have a small mirror for last minute touch-ups
source |
A small floating shelf to place sunglasses etc. along with a key and mail holder.
I also wanted this cabinet for shoes
Hemnes Shoe Cabinet from IKEA |
However because of the narrow space, it would just make the room too tight.
So I'm still thinking of other ways to store the shoes.
Baskets or usual shelf shoe storage...
Anyhow, I also need to paint this space up too. The cream has got to go too.
Keep your fingers crossed !
Have a Wonderful Day!

Would love to hear your thoughts! Please share away...
That is the perfect space for shoes, coats and bags! I like the shoe rack the best. It will keep the shoes organized and make it easier to clean the area. I have a built in bench in my mudroom but it's used for a catch all and always looks cluttered! If it wasn't for the storage under the seat that I used for holiday dishes, I would probably take it out!
ReplyDeleteI love the look of the PB shelf rack you used for inspiration! What color are you leaning towards for the space?
ReplyDeleteI love the direction you are going, Vel! Functional, organized and pretty! Can't wait to see the transformation!

This is a really nice space and there's a LOT you can do with it, I think! I love the clothes rack in the first photo, that's really beautiful. It's nicer than some of my furniture, haha. :)
ReplyDeletePerfect plan Vel and I know youre going to make it look fantastic! I ready and waiting to board the plane to Rome tonight, the anticipation is killing me!!!! Have a great few weeks.

I can't wait to see how it comes together!
ReplyDeleteThat space has so much potential! I love you plans and inspiration pictures. I can't wait to see how it turns out!
ReplyDeleteI think it's important to make all spaces pretty as well as functional so you are happy just going in there even if it's just to get a coat. Love your ideas so far!
ReplyDeleteYou have cool ideas, Vel. That's an interesting space to use more efficiently. I know it will be really great!
ReplyDeletesorry for not being here in awhile. i've been away for so long, i need to go over your posts to see what's new. but im definite that you did a good job.
ReplyDeletethanks for being there all the time <3
Wow! Another project. I can't wait to see what you come up with, Vel. Good luck...Christine
ReplyDeleteI love the ideas you have so far, Vel. I use baskets for shoes in almost every room...by the front door, in the coat closet and one in every room to catch boots as they don't stand up well in a closet. For your electrical box, we have one in out laundry/mud room and we just framed it out very simply and added a door with hinges.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do! And hey, it's fun to have more than one project going on at a time...if one is driving you mad, you can pop over to the other! :)
XO,
Jane
Well, if this space comes out even half as nice as your kitchen, it will be fantastic! Can't wait to see what you have up your sleeve!
ReplyDeleteMs. Vel, I'm sorry.. I just forgot. Are you an architect of interior designer? you have gazillion of great ideas... I love looking at your works..

Love your ideas and inspiration pics! I know it will be fab! Can't wait!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great coat rack, it's totally perfect for your space! Can't wait to see how it all turns out! I just picked up a mirror really similar to those round ones for our nursery :) Not sure if it's staying yet but I so love it!
ReplyDeleteAll the ideas you have in mind for this little space are fabulous! The clothes rack and the mirror are my favorite. Well I know all of them are kind of necessary for the room to work as yo want. It's going to look great, that I know ;)
ReplyDeleteI know you'll do something brilliant!
ReplyDeleteSuch a neat little area to decorate. I wish our house had more nooks. Then again I'd continue to shop, so maybe it's a good thing. Can't wait to see more of the space.
