We have a prefinished wide plank wood floor in our kitchen. It has held up very well- 10 years old and still looks brand new! We got it on clearance for $3/ sg ft. It was super easy to install and we have had a flood, messy kids, animals and many, many sandy beach/pool feet trekking across it. I think that both the vinyl and the laminate are good choices as well. You have excellent taste, I am sure whatever you choose will be gorgeous! It is very easy to install with a couple of simple tools(a sharp bladed utility knife and a pair of vinyl siding shears and straight/squaring ruler). It comes with a 25 year warranty. I had my kitchen done in wood laminate flooring several years ago and it has a couple of places where water penetrated it. The installer should have put sealant where the planks lock into each other, but he said it didn't need it and water would not be a problem. Real wood with several coats of finish would be nice, but costly. If I were to do my kitchen again, it would probably be in the vinyl planks. I would use the vinyl plank flooring if I had it to do again. I plan to replace carpet in most of my home with Allure flooring in the future.Just my opinion.lynn cockrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16250601457878656085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2116080432185422626.post-16044464144717570732013-07-24T09:13:39.664-05:002013-07-24T09:13:39.664-05:00We have wood (engineered) throughout, and love the...We have wood (engineered) throughout, and love them. They are "floated" over vinyl and feel like a raised floor foundation (we have a slab). These wood floors are warm and natural. They have a poly finish that is mat, so they don't shine, but can stand up to lots of wear and tear. The Cost after lots of shopping (see my blog about that) was $3.17 a sq ft. Since we aren't physically able, we had to have it installed, that is where the real cost is.
Nancy
http://wildoakdesigns.blogspot.comWild Oak Designshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03130161439969950766noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2116080432185422626.post-51258128068627695352013-07-24T08:56:02.058-05:002013-07-24T08:56:02.058-05:00We had wood floors in the kitchen in our old house...We had wood floors in the kitchen in our old house and they were totally fine. Hubby and I did it ourselves and though it took some time, it wasn't all that difficult! We are so pleased with how it looks! The only thing to consider, however, is that water is "death" to a laminate floor! However, in areas where there may be a slight spillage (kitchen or bathroom sink) you can always glue the laminate together to seal it up - just in those areas, though.Vickie @ makingoursustainablelife.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01210045536198927269noreply@blogger.com
