What I brought back from Atlanta...

Remember this?

Yup, a UHAUL trailer, even had the hitch attached there!

And here is what was inside...
AN OUTDOOR KITCHEN BAR!!!

Perfect for my upcoming kitchen reno!

Got the stools from TARGET at $99 for 2

I've always wanted one of these and I have been browsing for a while now. But because of budget constraints, I've pushed off getting one until now.

We saw this baby over at HOMEGOODS in Atlanta...

It was on CLEARANCE and the manager, even gave me an extra substantial discount because of a scratch on the refrigerator's side and a missing grill plate! I could not pass it up. And luckily, my husband was supportive and we got it back here in Illinois!

Moving it out of the trailer was another story.
We first tried calling movers in our area, but since it was a holiday weekend, we didn't get any call back. So we decided to do something like this...

BAYANIHAN
... well, not exactly like this, but the concept is similar. BAYANIHAN is a term we use for communal effort to help a neighbor in need particularly in building or literally, moving a whole house!
We needed this kind of power, so we decided to call our available friends for an afternoon barbecue and of course, moving this super heavy bar/kitchen!

It took 10 people to carry this thing to where it is now, but I think the effort was all worth it! Plus, we know more how much our friends are willing to help us and be part of good ol' BAYANIHAN! We are indeed very grateful! THANK YOU!!!!!

Have you ever bought anything this big from one of your holiday vacations? Please do share away!

Have a Great Day!!!

Would love to hear your thoughts! Please share away...

  4. Oh I love it, it is fabulous. What a great find. I would love one too, but I have a weird layout where it needs to go, maybe I will get DH to build me one. Yours is really fabulous. Hugs, Marty

  6. It's wonderful to learn about ****values**** like BAYANIHAN from other cultures, there are certainly times in life when it does take a village to accomplish something. I guess BAYANIHAN is similar to a communal barn raising here in the US, another nifty concept. So you should be able to handle being displaced from your reno kitchen pretty easily now :) And that outside kitchen is the perfect "completer piece" for that gorgeous pool / outdoor retreat. Enjoy it! Robin

  18. Oh, Vel...this is just awesome! I could only dream about something like this, and a place big enough for it! You are going to have the best summer!! And you have the best neighbors! What will you do with it during the winter months? I'm so glad you got such a great deal. It was worth waiting for. The biggest thing I ever bought on a trip was a lamp that we had to ship! lol!

    Thanks for stopping by!

  22. That is so funny - that was at my HomeGoods in the suburbs of Chicago and I would drool over it all of the time! My husband said NO so I was so happy when someone finally bought it and I didn't have to hear it calling me name everytime I went in there (which is a lot)! You are very lucky and it looks great!

  27. Not this big, but I did once buy a very large painting on vacation that wouldn't fit in the car. It seemed like it would be okay at the time. Ended up having to return it.
