What a Kitchen Renovation looks like

After all the planning and ordering for the kitchen, and packing it up and 'moving' it elsewhere all around the house, we finally began renovation last Wednesday, July 24.

For anyone who's done anything like this, I SALUTE YOU!!!

Our Daily Life  as we knew it was transformed, literally and figuratively! Just take a look at what my house looks like now....

My Pantry in the Living room

My other Kitchen Mess in the Dining room

I tried organizing things well, but since nobody knew ( That includes me) where everything was or where things had to go back in to, it just became pure CHAOS! I've learned to live with this chaos because trying to 'fight' it was truly a futile effort! Hahahaha! The old adage of, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em", truly applies to how I try to fix our stuff right now! And I know you all can sympathize with me on that.

Aside from our outdoor space and kitchen (the big bright spot in this whole fiasco which I will share later on), we have settled in the basement...

DISPOSABLES - My 'bestfriends' at the moment!

Another Lifesaver - the Little Cooker that could!

It truly works fine for now and we get to watch movies too as we finish up eating (Bear with me as I try to see the positives in our situation)! We're also adding a small exhaust here on the ceiling using the duct work on the vent from our old kitchen.

As for the Kitchen itself, here's what we had so far...

DAY 1 - removal of the appliances

DAY 2 - Removal of the countertops and sink
DAY 3 Removal of the old cabinets itself & Some of the old floor

On Day 4 the carpenters put some of the cabinets in place already to see the overall lay-out and I definitely was so excited for that part! I'll share that with you soon!

For now, I know you can understand why my posting has been sporadic, as things progress, things need to be decided upon and ordered. So far, except for some minor 'gliches', I think things are going smoothly. But PLEASE, continue to cross your fingers for us!!!! ;-)

Have  a Wonderful Day!

  1. So nice you have the basement kitchen to use. Hang in there, your new kitchen will be amazing!!!

  2. Our house looked like that when they were redoing our floors after my mom's bathroom overflowed without her telling us, with water seeping through walls Into to 2 hallways, living room, office and another bathroom. I had to empty all my dishes and plates and glasses from 7 cabinets so the workers could move them. I had storage bins everywhere, mostly stacked on the living room floor. All that inconvenience and work will all be worth it after your kitchen is done. It gets worse before it gets better. Enjoy the process, Vel, and keep your sanity for the meantime....Christine

  3. It is always exhausting and exciting to renovate. At the end, you'll be happy and hopefully everything continues to go smoothly! I am also in the process of renovating my house, inside and out! I understand it can be chaotic and at the same time be fun too. Good luck in your kitchen renovation!

  4. Oh Vel, so much fun and excitement to be remodeling your kitchen! The kitchen is the best part to redo...we did it three years ago and we still love it and enjoy it. I love the part when you get to buy new appliances and things, too! How great you have a basement kitchen, sweet friend. Thanks for your kind vsit. Big hugs,

  5. This is a very familiar sight, since I went through our kitchen remodel only three years ago. I am looking forward to the final photos!!

  6. You're lucky to have that little extra kitchen in the basement! Yeah, it is best not to worry that much about the big jumbled mess, your beautiful kitchen is coming!

  7. I wish we had had an extra kitchen when we remodeled ours. I was cooking in a microwave in the living room and washing dishes in the bathroom sink! But yes, you are right, you just have to join in with the chaos! Better times will come! :)

  8. How exciting to be watching your kitchen get transformed! I am enjoying it with you!

  9. Wow - so exciting... just remember how fabulous it is going to look when things are feeling so crazy and scattered! We need to do some kitchen renos soon, I am not looking forward to the in-progress stage:)

  10. So great that you have the basement kitchen! We completely gutted and remodeled the kitchen in our previous home and that took about two months. We moved some essentials into the guest room (microwave), but the fridge was on our screened patio. Crazy chaotic -- thank goodness it was just the two of us! I feel your pain, honey, but it will all be worth it!

  11. Hey I my friends I tell you something can you give me answer please. Whether you opt for an industrial-like stove or go with a traditional 4 burner model, you should overcompensate when it comes to an exhaust system (especially if you do any sort of consistent or serious cooking). Moreover, try and get your stove installed on an outside wall so that you don’t have a long run to the outside (with your vent tubing). We have a Vent-a-Hood vent and it is quiet, easy to maintain, and very efficient and powerful
