Kitchen Flooring Choices

Nowadays, there are so many options other than ceramic and hardwood flooring. For my upcoming kitchen renovation I am considering between two types of flooring.

The first option is VINYL Plank Flooring.

Vinyl Flooring
Vinyl flooring is a variant of linoleum. Thicker and more resilient, comes in tile and wood plank looks. Water-proof and very ideal for high-traffic areas including Kitchen and bathroom. Not exactly as cheap as linoleum but pretty reasonable at around $4-5/square foot.
Here are some that I am considering...

CORETEC Kingswood Oak

MOHAWK Noblesse Toasted Walnut

LINKWERKS Acacia Plank

LINNKWERKS Rapid Clic
As you can see, I'm considering dark brown colors so that the transition form my hardwood to kitchen won't be so drastic.

The other flooring we are considering is LAMINATE.

Here are our choices for that...

TIMELESS DESIGNS Sienna

TIMELESS DESIGNS Espresso

MOHAWK  Bourbon Bayview Hickory

Rustique Aged Carob Oak planks

It runs around $3-5/square foot, very durable and scratch-resistant, but may have trouble with standing water.

So, what do you think? What kind of flooring do you have in your kitchen?
Are you happy with it? If not, what would you change it too?
Would love to hear your thoughts! Please share away...

Have A Great Day!!!

  1. We just put a laminate down in our family room, breakfast nook, kitchen, laundry room, powder room and down the hall to the bedrooms. Hubby and I did it ourselves and though it took some time, it wasn't all that difficult! We are so pleased with how it looks! The only thing to consider, however, is that water is "death" to a laminate floor! However, in areas where there may be a slight spillage (kitchen or bathroom sink) you can always glue the laminate together to seal it up - just in those areas, though.

  2. We have laminate all throughout our house. If it were my choice and budget wasn't an issue, I would choose wood tiles or vinyl planks. Laminate and water do not mix! We had to replace the floors in the kitchen because of water damage.

  3. Love them both pretty girl. The laminate is great, we want it eventually for our bedrooms. You need to see what's best because a kitchen is a place that somehow it's always wet...you spill things and yes, even plain wáter...I do! When we remodeled our kitchen we went with a hard fabulous Italian ceramic tile. Maybe just for the kitchen area and breakfast area the laminate. You will choose the best for you, I know. Thanks for coming sweetie. Have a super week.

  4. I really love the vinyl wood plank flooring and I wish we had gone with a darker stained wood. In my kitchen I have traverstine stone and I have to say, it's cold in the winter and cold in the summer (with the a/c on). I think I'd do hardwood if I could do it again. Good luck!

  6. We have wood floors in our kitchen and will also use them again in our new kitchen remodel. Water is a problem with all surfaces to some degree, so I say use what you love best!
    Can't wait to see...

  7. I recently put wood floors in my hallway, dining room & kitchen. I used Home Depot Pergo XP which has a backing on the planks already. So far I have not had any trouble but I have not had any leaks either. Enjoy your decision.

  9. We had wood floors in the kitchen in our old house and they were totally fine. I loved them! But in this house it has ceramic tile that is kind of a stone color. And I love it too. It never shows dirt, literally. I love it!

  10. We have wood (engineered) throughout, and love them. They are "floated" over vinyl and feel like a raised floor foundation (we have a slab). These wood floors are warm and natural. They have a poly finish that is mat, so they don't shine, but can stand up to lots of wear and tear. The Cost after lots of shopping (see my blog about that) was $3.17 a sq ft. Since we aren't physically able, we had to have it installed, that is where the real cost is.

  11. Earlier this month, I redid a bathroom, DIY, in Allure vinyl plank flooring and I love it.I posted on my blog about it yesterday. It is very easy to install with a couple of simple tools(a sharp bladed utility knife and a pair of vinyl siding shears and straight/squaring ruler). It comes with a 25 year warranty. I had my kitchen done in wood laminate flooring several years ago and it has a couple of places where water penetrated it. The installer should have put sealant where the planks lock into each other, but he said it didn't need it and water would not be a problem. Real wood with several coats of finish would be nice, but costly. If I were to do my kitchen again, it would probably be in the vinyl planks. I would use the vinyl plank flooring if I had it to do again. I plan to replace carpet in most of my home with Allure flooring in the future.Just my opinion.

  12. All the choices you have are beautiful! We have hardwood floors in our kitchen and I'm pretty happy with them! Good luck with your decision!

  13. I love the Timeless Designs hand hewn flooring look. I think that's what I'd use. I have wood floors and honestly they do have some water damage, more around the sink area and from slobbery dogs drinking out of water bowls... something to consider...
    good luck!

  14. Choices, choices - they are so tough. That's were the decorator comes in. I can't choose anything like that. I know it will be beautiful whatever you choose because they are all great. How exciting to be getting this work done!

  15. Hi Vel, I love the dark colors, they are my favorites! We have a prefinished wide plank wood floor in our kitchen. It has held up very well- 10 years old and still looks brand new! We got it on clearance for $3/ sg ft. It was super easy to install and we have had a flood, messy kids, animals and many, many sandy beach/pool feet trekking across it. I think that both the vinyl and the laminate are good choices as well. You have excellent taste, I am sure whatever you choose will be gorgeous!
