Red, White and Blue Decor

Wether your remembering someone or not on this Memorial day, it is best to offer a short prayer and remembrance to those who have fallen or have left a void in our hearts .

So as a simple tribute to this day, I share with you my favorite rooms in the traditional Red, White & blue colors....

Our New Year's Eve Traditions

Hello Everyone!!! HAPPY 2014!

I hope you all had a wonderful celebration wether you spent it quietly, or not,  with the family or with friends, I hope you're all off to a great start!

Anyway, I just wanted to share with you some of the traditions (or superstitions) our family does on \NEW YEAR's EVE!  Actually this is the "typical FILIPINO-WAY" of getting ready for the new year.

1) CLEAN THE HOUSE & EMPTY ALL THE TRASH & LAUNDRY

source

Doesn't sound like New Year's Eve fun right?
Well, we believe that we have to start the year with a clean slate -literally too
That way, the house will be clean and be welcoming to good vibes throughout the year!
And yes, I do clean like a mad-woman before new year's eve, and since this year, we came back from vacation, I had to do it on the day itself!
Taxing yes, but so worth it I think.
Come to think of it, I think I clean my house more at this time of year than in Spring time!

2) MAKE SURE ALL YOUR FOOD SUPPLY IS WELL STOCKED AND FULL

Again, for a bountiful-filled-up year, all my food supplies are fully stocked up to the brim. All bottled containers are re-filled full and rice, which is a primary food staple in our home, abounds.

3) 13 DIFFERENT FRUITS ON THE TABLE
Contrary to popular belief here, 13 is actually a lucky number in Chinese!
The number 13 when pronounced in Mandarin signifies VIBRANCE and ASSURED GROWTH, definitely things you want for your year!
Hence, come new year, there has to be 13 different kinds of round fruits on the table!

I only had 7 different kinds, because I thought it was just 7, but round things mean wealth and prosperity!

4) PLACE COINS ON ALL THE DOORS & WINDOWS OF THE HOME

This is again for good luck & prosperity,  for money to come into the home all year as well!
As per our family's tradition, my kids do this task and place all the coins all around the house!

5)KEEPING ALL THE LIGHTS INSIDE THE HOME ON COME NEW YEARS EVE

This is said to ward off evil spirits and for a BRIGHT year ahead!

6) WEARING POLKA DOTS ON NEW YEARS EVE

Luckily we have a lot of great options nowadays

Thank God for Sequins and this has been a staple for me come new year's eve!
For the boys, they wear lots of beads! Again Round/Circle = GOOD FORTUNE

7) JIGGLING COINS IN YOUR POCKET AS SOON AS MIDNIGHT STRIKES = MORE MONEY FOR THE NEW YEAR

8) FOR THE KIDS , JUMPING AT MIDNIGHT TO BE TALLER!
It's so fun to do too even for adults!
9) PLENTY OF NOISE MAKERS AND FIRE WORKS

We do this not just for fun, but also with the belief that loud noises also ward of "evil spirits" & vibes from our home. So back in the Philippines, individual households have their own sets of lots of fireworks!!! Can you just imagine the noise and craziness?!!!

This year, we celebrated at our friend's house the Columbian way!

Our handsome Colombian hosts - Ricardo & Alex
They too had their own traditions for New Year's eve, such as....

1)  Running around the block with your suitcase so that you'd be traveling a lot for the year.

2) Eating 12 grapes at the stroke of midnight making a wish for each grape

3) Burning your New year's resolution before midnight so that they will come true!

4) Wearing Yellow underwear for good luck- don't ask me why, it's just so!

Their home was perfect for the party since all their gorgeous trees were still up...

Gold Tree

Blue & Green Tree

Mini Tree

Purple tree
It was truly a fun & tradition-filled New Year's Eve...

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR A WONDERFUL PARTY!!!!!!
... and no matter how you celebrated or welcomed the New Year, may yours be filled with love, happiness and blessings for you and your family!

CHEERS!!

Our Christmas Home tour 2013

Finally ready to reveal ALL our Christmas decorations in our home!

Prepare for A LOT of pictures.  Let's begin the tour, shall we? :-)

Tree in the corner

Hung Frames with Norman Rockwell pics I got from an old book as art

Simple Console with my Paper Whites
The Beaded runner was from Pier 1 clearance last year.

Got my large Nutcracker from Target last year.
The lighted spheres are from Lakeside collection last year too, just placed them in
some of my brass pots. Small nutcracker is from the Dollar store

Just added green pillows on my sofa and a pair of Gucci throw

Simple Coffe table vignettes - brass and pine cones!

Layered a wool carpet above my jute one. It's our very first carpet purchase ever back  in 2007. It usually resides in my walk in closet but had to bring it out for this year. :-)

Simple side
Beaded gold placemat was from Kohls last year

View from Above

Simple Christmas Mantle - layered mirrors and art

Christmas touches in our Kitchen
I don't do bedrooms... yet.
Only thing in my little ones bedroom is a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree!
But I bet, as I add on to my Christmas decorations those rooms will eventually not be 'spared' from all these!

Hope you enjoyed the Christmas tour!

By the way, My son's TWEEN Bedroom was featured in Better After today! Check it out too if you have the time!

Have a Wonderful Week!

Christmas Dining Room and Thanksgiving 2013

I withheld showing my Dining room up until now since I told you before when I shared with you my Snowflake chandelier that I needed to make something for this room, and I finally did!

Our Dining room before Thanksgiving

This is what I made...

A Gift Wrap Paper Wreath
I got this wonderful idea from Kate Riley over at "Centsational Girl" when she shared how she made this Wrapping Paper Wreath HERE

I just added metallic tacks around on my version

Simple but pretty
I matched the wreath with my paper place mats as well!
Used my Antique Store score of Fireking gold-rimmed plates and bowl for my table
Gold flatware also an Antique store score
Goblets were from Jonathan Adler's Home line with HSN years ago and Capiz coasters were from the Philipines
Went simple on my Buffet table with my Apothecary jars getting snow and just ornaments.

I did not have another smaller tree to hang my sentimental ornaments at, but thought of placing them all on display on my mirrored shelves in the Dining!

I also added some Christmas bling over at my Bar area...

Beaded Snowflake ornaments on the mirrors,
Martini Snowman glass and typography family art!
I set up a table for 8 this year since we decided to have the kids in the grown-ups table too !

With our guests the Anterola Family
We had a very good and pleasant Thanksgiving recalling all the things we were thankful for...

... and made the usual Thanksgiving/Grateful Ornament we always make during Thanksgiving afterwards!

Our Holiday picture for this year
We hope you and your family had a Wonderful Thanksgiving as well!

Have a Great Week!

P.S. If your wondering about my hair, yes, they are extensions, just clip-ons I decided to use it just for fun!
