ORC Week 3 - Comfy & Stylish Boys Bedroom Plan

Thank you all for the support as I try to tackle another boys bedroom! I say that because I know most of you are not joining the challenge but are really awesome to follow along on our attempt to finish this room in 6 weeks (5 weeks in my case).

LINK UP HERE

Gosh, really, the hardest part of doing this, is in fact, the thought that my 'baby boy' has grown up and needs a space that can grow with him!

And so today, I share with you THE PLAN....

From this...

To THIS - Bed Wall
As you can see the huge statement piece in this space is the gorgeous wallpaper! It's by Shumacher called ZIMBA in Silver and I have been in love with it for years!

It comes in different colors but I think for our purpose, the Silver will work best (in terms of the growing up with him part, I think ;-)).

I only ordered 1 double roll and will see if I have enough for some other walls in the room. But I will definitely be placing it behind the bed.

Now for the wall opposite the bed....

From This....

To this?????
Ok,I put in a lot of question marks on this wall plan. Simply because I am leaning towards a desk here. The only problem is that this wall is between the door and another Indoor/Interior Window!!!!!

Yes, I have 2 Interior window in my house and I actually plan on doing the same thing to this window as I did in Sophia's Nursery...

Just to Refresh your memory
I like that I can just add a small piece of the wall paper to a roller shade and then place some clear shelving, and Viola - a cute book display! You can read more about it HERE, which btw, I also did for the ORC.

I do think he will need a desk, but with the big windows and not a lot of walls in the room, I think this wall would be the only spot for it. So I am thinking of putting up something like this...

Wall Desk from AMAZON
I think it can work with our limited wall and floor space. and I think will look nice enough too. The other thing is, my son is not letting go of some of these...

which is almost 3 ft. tall btw

... and some of this gang too
Yup, his favorite toys of course has to stay in the room and not in his closet. And of course, since this is HIS SPACE, I do have to trump style for what he loves and enjoys right? Coz isn't that what makes a bedroom "perfect" in the first place?!

By the window, I want to put a good reading chair. And in "Dream Land" I can and will put this...

I say it's for "dream land" because this chair costs " $6,894!!!
I have looked at more affordable options, but I really want something similar without breaking the bank! Still on a hunt, let me know if you find something similar!

I'm getting some help pulling this space together. Last week, I had a contractor survey the space and I'm still waiting on their quote and the other things I ordered for this space like the wall paper.

Now, let's check on what the others are up to since technically, we're supposed to be halfway there already!

ORC Week 2 - Another Boy's Room Re-do

Nope, you did not miss my Week 1 ORC post.

The reason being simple, I jumped LATE into this game. In other words,  I joined only this week!

If you don't know anything about ORC, check it out HERE

But as they say, better late than never right? And because of my late entry and late planning, I hope and pray that I will be finished on time for the big reveal along with everyone else!

Ok, 'nuf about that. Let me show you the room we're working with...

BEFORE, BEFORE
This is my younger son's bedroom, and the picture above was how I decorated it when we first moved into the house. Only thing we did, was paint the window wall white (since it was orange before).

Then I re-did his room HERE, in 2012. And obviously, he was into Dr. Seuss at that time...

BEFORE

But as he grew, of course his tastes have changed and he has asked me to fix his room up already right after I did Sophia's Nursery ,also for the ORC , Here.

NOW
I procrastinated a long time as you see. And actually one of the perks of joining the ORC is that is gives you extra motivation to get things done. However, I think my main reason for procrastinating is this...

.. I MISS THE TIME WHEN HE WAS STILL LITTLE, and he's just growing up WAY TOO FAST! sniff... sniff..
Ok, since I made the point of not being "chicken" anymore , which I also wrote about HERE, I hope you'll cheer me on as I tackle another room!

Next week I will show you my plans for this space!

Evolution of a Boy's room

Since we are all still 'recovering' from a very busy weekend after Sophia's birthday party, this  post, will be short and sweet.

Now that my son is off to Highschool ( I feel like it's college since he will live in the school dormitory ), I wanted to look back and remember how our "little" boy's room has evolved thru out his time in our home...

2010

2012

2015
Makes me teary-eyed just looking at all the changes.

And yet, here we are with more changes - in his life for that matter!
Hoping and praying that this decision we all made together would turn out to be the best for him in the end.

I MISS HIM TERRIBLY ALREADY!Why do kids have to grow up so soon?!!!

Have a Great Week!

PS: THANK YOU ALL very much for your words of sympathy and comfort with regards to my grandmother's passing. Words are very powerful and what you conveyed was truly helpful and comforting to me and to the rest of my family.

From Tween to Teen - A Boy's Room Re-do

A kid growing up is a natural transition that WE are all faced with.
Be it YOU, yourself growing up, or be it your own child, it's a change both anticipated and "dreaded" (to some degree) by EVERYONE.

And with that change, comes some change too in their rooms.
Well, this one stemmed from a bit of "BED-SWITCHEROO" really.

First, with the new NURSERY, the queen-sized bed in the former guest room got moved to my younger son's room - then his bed, was moved to my older son's room which made his bed back into a bunk bed! Got it?!

And with this one change, the whole room just got to be re-done since it's one move after another, I know, you know what I mean. ;-)
I thought it perfect timing too, since my formerly tween son is now a teen and going to boarding school this fall  (sniff...sniff). His room will be an alternative guest room once he is gone since we still have the BASEMENT GUEST ROOM for such purpose.

Anyway, just a brief reminder of how this room looked before when we finished it for
my first ORC (One Room Challenge ) back in 2013...

Our Tween Boy bedroom then

And here is what it looks like now...

See what I mean...
Having the tall bunk bed back made us move it to it's current location since whoever's gonna be sleeping above will get dinged from the close ceiling fan.

Got my bedding from TJ Maxx & Ross respectively, it's by Tommy Hillfiger
Seating/extra bed too!
This was where the former Study area was...

This is what used to be there

I also moved the repainted mid-century dresser that used to be beside the bed, across the current bed.

Proud momma hung his current Academic achievements above

I moved one of the book case that flanked the TV beside the dresser
Displayed too some of his medals here
Bookcase surprisingly remained organized
The Book Case I moved
Current Study area
I didn't want to move the wall art I made for above the bed (This is a FREE printable I made HERE),
so it stayed put where it was, but now above the study area.
Not much change in our Reading Nook

Overall, my son says he likes  the current set-up as well and still looks forward to using his room a lot when he comes home on weekends (he'll be studying in St. Louis).

As for me, I'm glad that the bed-switching worked out in the end for this room.
But what about this room...

Yup, my younger one has outgrown Dr. Seuss (or so he says)
So I'm gearing up for decorating for another BOY TWEEN ROOM soon!

Wish me luck!

Have a Great Week!

ORC Tween Boy Bedroom Updates

After the very fun One Room Challenge (ORC)  Linda from "Calling It home" hosted last time, we're back in the same room for some minor updates we did to this space.

First, was this huge Vintage Map Find I found last December that went on this wall...

Something me and my son loves a lot!

Second, the window treatment for the nook finally arrived!

Custom Bamboo Woven Wood Roman Shade

I ordered this during ORC and only got it afterwards, and finally my husband hung them only after the holidays!

Yes, it took a while, but for the unbelievable price I paid for it, I say it was worth it.
I paid $42 for a custom made shade from JC Penney, and if you know how much custom shades or blind cost, you know how much a bargain this is! In fact, I ordered custom-made shades for my kitchen as well!
The down-side of course was the shipping time, on the site it said 6-7 weeks, which was about right when I finally got this. But if your in no rush, you'd save big with these! Quality is not shabby either!

Lastly I got some new bedding, actually just pillowcases...

Switched around the pillows as well
The Throw Pillows went from Nook to Living Room to Bed
I scored the Kate Spade Shams for $6 each at TJ Maxx clearance.

Still looks pretty much the same
Luckily still not so chaotic
My sons and their dad spend a lot of time here on the weekends ever since my hubs transferred one of the gaming consoles here as well. It's 'their space' as they call it.

So far so good, and no major re-arranging needed to be done or changed since my son enjoys his space more than ever!
