Sophia's 1st Birthday Flamingle Party- decorations and Sweets table

I'm taking a break from all the Halloween stuff for awhile with this post.

I am now ready to share with you some of the deets on the Flamingle Birthday Party we had a couple of weeks ago for our darling Sophia!




We started preparing for the actual party 4 days prior to the day.
With our new extended yard and fence, the area outside was the perfect spot for the celebration.

We considered all the possible scenarios, weather-wise and so we decided to set-up a tent (which was fantastic since it ended up raining that morning so we had to move everything inside this tent and luckily it all fit in it!)

Hung gold glittered garlands all around and place these Flamingo decor on the posts

Renting out a tent was our first option but with only a hundred dollar difference to buying one, we figured to just buy since I'm sure we'll be able to use this tent again for years to come! ;-)

I also had a local photographer (Kassi Needling Photography), take the photos during the party, that way I could concentrate on the celebrant, guests and the fun of it all.I have lots of pictures, but I chose to share the ones that I think may be interesting to you guys and for anyone planning for a party.

Ok, so let's start with the decorations!

I hung 30 inch balloons upside down and added old paper lanterns (used from Sophia's Baptism) from the tent ceiling. My husband just added lights just in case we end up being outside until evening (party started at 3 pm).


We were able to fit 8 tables for guests including the cake table and buffet tables.
Hanging balloons upside down makes sense to me since filling up these huge balloons with Helium would cost way too much, we have an air compressor of our own so filling them up was easy and FREE!

I had more balloons in the pool too!
My centerpiece had this sign from Pixel Perfection Party
along with pink buckets & Flamingo table decor from the Dollar Store

I also placed plastic flamingo yard sticks everywhere and also had a couple of Helium-filled balloons as well.
Have to share this photo since the table centerpieces were supposed to have Helium-filled balloons on them but they arrived late for photos. :-(

I brought out my Spring Wreath which I shared with HERE, and changed out the rabbit to flamingos!


Now I want to share with you the Cake/Sweets Table!

Birthday Banner is from Pixel Perfection Party as well. 
I blew up Sophia's pictures at Sam's (the best price for prints) and framed them in IKEA frames.

Sweets ranged from M &Ms, cherry gum drops, Pink Candy Corn, Snowballs, Pink Wafers, Pink animal crackers, Hershey bars and Strawberry Macarrons - and oh, Pink Flamingo pops!

The cake was delish - Chocolate Raspberry!

I wrote these signs for the guests to grab the goodies away!

Goodies were stored in the Flamingo bags I made. You still remember the Flamingo bags I shared with you during my Flamingle Party prep HERE? Hope so.


I had the Buffet Table set- up  across the sweets table

I was able to use the DIY Cherry Blossoms I shared with you last Spring


I still have lots to share, but I don't want to "burn" your eyes  with all this pink and all this information. I'll share with you the Ice Cream Station, Drink station, games & Gift table!

A Baby Shower on a Budget

First of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for your greetings of CONGRATULATIONS
for our THIS OLD HOUSE MAGAZINE FEATURE!!! You guys are the best, and it really swells up my heart to know how equally happy and proud you are of that, a big hug to all of you!


Anyway, today I just wanted to share with you  a baby shower I hosted  for one of my friend who is also pregnant like me, at our home 2 weekends ago.

This is one of those things that I should have thought long and hard first before committing since I too am at that delicate phase and eventually realized hanging streamers from the ceiling was clearly not do-able in my current state.

Luckily I have other friends who love me and her and helped out a lot in the preparation (ladies you know who you are?!), and I am grateful indeed!



So let's start off with the Baby Shower Decorations.



Just added balloons to the ceiling
Balloons -$1/15  X2 colors
String-  $1

I put my diaper cake gift in the middle and giveaways atop cake stands. 
The bunnies are to be prizes for the games.

Used Dollar Store table covers (x4) to make faux curtains -hung these using painters tape
Baby Shower sign was just borrowed

Used Flower garlands I got post-easter from Dollar Tree for 50 cents each
Egg lanterns were post-Easter finds from Target
The duckies were borrowed from another friends Baby shower

Pompoms on the food island - Another borrowed decor from my friend grace
Porcelain bassinet Card holder a Goodwill find

As you can see from my sources, I did not spend much on my decor. A lot of effort and planning ahead YES, but not a lot of dough. ;-)

For Big parties like these, I usually do it POTLUCK and most of our friends are always more than willing to contribute. I made only 2 dishes and provided the utensils and the drinks!
Definitely budget-friendly and always oh-so-yummy!

The talking and eating dominated the party! 
There are tons of Free printable Baby Shower games out there, just choose to your liking!

We also had a photobooth in the basement and I gave copies of all our photos to the Celebrant mom afterwards!


Baby Shower Gift

I already showed you How to Make a Diaper Cake, but as a brief review, here it is again...

Easy Peasy ;-)
Mom-to-be-host with the Mom-to-be-Celebrant
Gave her the Photos from the photobooth as a memento of this day and of course the cake!


In the end, no matter what budget, getting help setting up was really key to this successful Baby Shower...

Monsters University Birthday Party

My son is currently into his Monsters University obsession and so he really wanted a MU PARTY this time around. And so, as a doting mom, I succumbed to his wishes.

And just like the Holidays, birthday party makes me "wacko" too!
So be prepared for LOTS of pictures!

THE INVITE

I got this from ETSY ℅ SSS Designs Creations for $7.99
Quick tip for printing 5 x 7 invites, SAM's Club has the cheapest price for sure. For the relatively small number I needed, their price can't be beat, believe me, I looked around!

I printed ID cards with the invitees name, cut them and placed it on top of the invite like this using paper tape...


That way they have their ID's already for the party!

THE DECORATIONS


The Appropriate sign as you head down into the basement
Had the different MU Houses photos enlarged and placed on our regular Movie Poster frames

Happy Birthday B table decor from Goodwill 24 cents!

Hung MU Ceiling Swirlies all around, blew up our own balloons  and bought Helium ones from the party store!

Guests also need to "Register" and put their ID tags on to join in on the Monster Fun!
I also had the "Monsters University" Song playing in the background to really get all the guests in the mood!


THE FOOD - for kids
I had 2 food stations set-up. One was in the basement which is the one I'm showing here and one for the adults set-up in my Kitchen island. The kiddos had Pizza, hotdogs, popcorn and of course cake!

The Cake
A friend of mine makes these gorgeous and super yummy cakes for me. The biggest one was chocolate and the other 2 small ones were Vanilla. We used Aidan's MU toys he got for Christmas to add on as decors!
It really is very yummy as it is pretty!

It's Chow time!

We had food all around the island and the counters! One thing about Filipino parties is that, the guests as well bring food, so there are plenty to choose from and enjoy!

THE GAMES

I sort-of invented the games to go with our theme
Modified "Pin the tail on the Donkey"

Modified Stop Dance instead of just stopping when the music does, they make their scary monster faces! 

Relay using balloons in between the backs of the kids - so much fun!

TOP SCARER GAME - kids team up and do the scariest roar


This is actually a game we play in the Philippines during birthday parties. It's called "PABITIN" in our language ( "hangings" or "anticipation" if translated literally in English). 
See my hubs on the back pulling the rope up and down? This brings this trellis-like contraption with all the toys, up or down, as kids try to grab a toy!

See who can finish wrapping up their partner using Party streamer! Fun, but messy afterwards ;-)


THE GIVE-AWAYS

I only assembled the box, ordered the whole thing ETSY c/o Gina's Magic Designs
This is what it looks like printed out.
Printing cost 49 cents each at staples if you bring your own cardboard paper (which I did), and I just stuffed candies inside! You can also put cereal if you want. :-)


It was truly a memorable and fun birthday party for Aidan. He was counting the days until the party and on the day itself, he was just so happy.


And I think, despite all the hoopla I put into the birthday party, this little guys approval was all that mattered in the end!!!
