A Red, White & Blue Summer Home Tour 2017

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to my R-W-B (Red, White & Blue)  Summer Home tour! First of all, I would like to extend a big "THANK YOU" to the lady behind it all, Marty from A Stroll Thru Life! You are amazing in every possible way dear, thank you for organizing, being patient and of course, for including me in this fantastic group of ladies! 

And as the title of this post implies,you kinda know that my Summer Home is filled with these colors. For someone who does not use RED quite often (except for the holidays), this is a big step for me! So come on in and hope you enjoy the tour!

I kinda figured that since the 4th of July is just around the corner, might as well enjoy my patriotic decor early right?!

Now, let's head off to our Dining room, where most of the RWB decor is!



I transferred my huge Matisse print in the dining room and placed some of my blue and white ceramic plates and jar here too.

I love these Red Carnations!


I used my Jonathan Adler plates and brought out my red chargers for the table. The placemat is made from gift wrap I cut to size!


I think my red acrylic utensils go perfect with this setting too! A thrift score from years past.

Red Cherry Blossoms are a score from At Home and the plates are part of a small but growing collection


Now let's head off to the Living Room...




 I didn't spend much for my Summer Home decor at all obviously, since the pillow covers are Christmas staples in my home and the art works are mostly made by yours truly.


I scored this scarf print pillow cover from EBAY and I love the greens on it!




Now, I truly enjoy decorating our console obviously. I did not change much of it from my Spring home tour (which you can check HERE ), except for the giant leaves (Homegoods score) and the Cherry Art print, and the carnations in the pots of course! ;-)






I love this RWB John Robshaw for TARGET throw that I scored years ago. It's light-weight and
of course, perfect for my theme this year!

I have a toddler who likes to keep us all busy so I had to include her small work table -
luckily, it's RED! LOL!


I finally got to use my brass hippo book stands!

Proud to say, all RED ARTWORKS are proudly made by yours truly!

I call this one "Sea of  Poppy"! The chinoiserie art is an original from Kerry Steele

The only space where RWB is no where to be seen.... YET! ;-)



I love all the succulents I planted in my giant Clam shell this year!




My husband added the railing on our back porch himself late last year! And I just finished painting the bottom railing to black (before it was white, dirty white;-)).


I'm getting ready to renovate our Master Bedroom so that's something to look out for in the next couple of weeks, and definitely something that'll keep me quite busy!

Outdoor Update

Remember when I showed you our Outdoor space during the last Summer Home tour ? 



Well, when I did the tour, the pillows I ordered for the sitting area hadn't arrived yet. So now, actually about a month already, they did arrive!

I know they are all over now in the blogosphere.  Kris at Driven by Decor has it and also Lisa from  Shine your Light! So I know, I made the right choice way before too!



I now moved all the pillows I bought from Joss & Main to the Dining area.

However, the outdoor space is not done yet. I still have this to fix...


Actually I need to find the bar stools for this spot. And I think I may have found the winner! Stay tuned as I share it here soon!

Making our Wisteria-filled pergola a reality

You probably saw our PLANS after we set up our Pergola.

And we really want to have something like this...




Our inspiration photos are pergola filled with Wisteria Vine. So, naturally, we had to get our Wisteria Vines.

We got ours at a local garden Center -$48 per vine plant
And since the pergola was made of metal, we were afraid with the extreme heat in our area, the metal might end up being too hot for the vine to grow onto. Plus the posts seems too narrow for the vines for the vines as well.

So my brilliant husband devised an ingenious plan to build a trellis on the pergola posts!

Not looking so ingenious yet... ;-)
I have to thank my hubs for this idea immensely since I initially tried to convince him to buy something like this because I was doubtful of that plan...

I just thought something ready-made would be easier and quicker, but then it's made of metal again, and I'm not sure our wisteria will survive climbing up these. 

So he built this instead....

He built this using  2" x 1" pieces of wood and painted it with black outdoor paint.



We used the original trellis first to let the vines get acclimated to it's new pot and location.

We also added some mushroom compost around the vine plant as recommended by the gardener at the garden center we bought it from (apparently fungus is the wisteria's main enemy- anyhow, we both don't know much about it so we just followed what the gardener said, if you know something about vines, please let me know on how we can take care of it better!).

After a few days we removed the trellis our wisteria came with and tied her up to our own trellis.


We're keeping a close eye on it and hopefully we'll be able to share our progress on this. 
On a  not-so-good-note, they say it may take up to 3 years before a wisteria would start blossoming. But I'm in no rush, we just want the greenery to start creeping up before the winter starts again and also just trying to keep our wisteria alive! Cross your fingers with me would you?
