Tween Boys Bedroom Re-do - What we're working with

I'm so excited to Linda's "One Room Challenge" Link Party!
So excited, because I know that this will motivate me further in doing our son's bedroom since we just finished a very tiring but fulfilling Kitchen Renovation.

Anyway, for this project, I'm not going to say much because the pictures will do all the talking on what needs to be done for this project...

Back Wall and Left wall

Left wall

Right Wall

Right wall with New Dormer
It is a huge room - a bonus room in fact that sits on top of our garage. So We have huge blank walls to fill and floor space as well.

And as if we don't have 'enough space'. We also added this  Dormer (for safety reasons, no windows in this room just skylights), I did not show you yet what it looked like inside.

A lot bigger than what we anticipated

Flooring was not included in the contract...

No lighting

Definitely need some seating

And here are some of my inspirations as to what kind of 'vibe' I ( & of course my son too) want for the space...

Like the overall 'feel' of this space

Love the wood tones and how this room can grown with any age
Love the colors in this room

And here's what I need to do :

1) carve out a sleeping area, study area, lounging/gaming area
2) make the Dormer a reading nook! 3)
Paint the room, add some interesting detail on the wall
4) Add lighting to the dormer area
5) Purge & Organize
6) Find suitable Side tables
7) Place flooring on the dormer
8) Find or build seating for the reading nook in the dormer
9) Please the young man who's gonna be the owner of this space!

And after all these, I think the room will be ready for our young man!

Be sure to check out all the other ORC particpants progres and Wish us luck!!!!

We're not done renovating just yet...

But, we're no quite done yet.
Here's a peak of what's going on in the house...

We're adding a huge dormer window in our son's bedroom.

Here's his bedroom currently.

Tween Zone
It's a big space but notice that there are no windows, only sky lights.

Right wall

Left Wall
We're adding the dormer more for safety reasons really.
A room without any windows, even with a skylight, is considered a 'fire hazard' since there's no route for escape.
Also, in the future, this room will officially be listed as a BEDROOM instead of a BONUS ROOM since before, it wasn't considered as such because of the reasons I mentioned earlier.
So adding the dormer was a no brainer for us - a safer room for our son and increase property value in the long run. Oh, and did I mention, we think it would make the house more beautiful too from the outside?!

We're almost done with this one, so more decorating for me! Yey! or Yey?!

Have a Nice Day!

Our Kitchen BEFORE & AFTER Showdown!

Now that you've seen the kitchen, I wanted to write this post because despite my overseeing the whole renovation process myself, I still can't believe 'we're finally there'!

I mean, l like looking back and seeing how it all began and putting the photos of the kitchen Before and after, is just enough to make me think, 'Why didn't I do this sooner?!"

Anyway, enough talk, I'll just show you what I mean, let the showdown begin...

Even the blog name was different then!

Cabinets Showdown

Sink & Oven area showdown

Island showdown

Pantry Showdown

Office Showdown

I can clearly see the winner here but despite my shiny new kitchen, I still like looking back at the old photos of the kitchen since a lot of memories are still embedded in that old kitchen. Tacky and brown as it may seem, it was still loved and used well by me and visitors who've come along our home for the last 3 years.  Sigh.... but no, I'm definitely not going back to the 'old' one literally, just the memories...

I'm hoping to make new and better memories with the new one soon.

How about you, have you remodeled and missed something from your previous space?
